Malcolm X, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was an American Black Muslim minister and a spokesman for the Nation of Islam.
Historical Facts
- In 1946, he was arrested for burglary and spent 6 years in prison. He participated in the prison debate team, which competed against teams from Harvard and MIT.
- Less than 2 years after he was paroled from prison, Malcolm X as named the minister at the Nation of Islam's Temple Number 11 Boston mosque. Later, he would also become the minister to Temple Number 12 in Philadephia and Temple Number 7 in New York.
- In the 1960s, Malcolm X participated in numerous debates and became one of the most sought after speaker in the United States.
